Und das ist auch möglich. In rund einem Drittel der untersuchten 1500 Regionen ist das laut einer Studie des Potsdam-Instituts für Klimafolgenforschung (PIK) gelungen.
Zwar wurden nicht alle Regionen weltweit unter die Lupe genommen. Aber immerhin sind die berücksichtigten Regionen für etwa 85% der weltweiten Emissionen verantwortlich.
Vorreiter der Entkopplung von Wachstum und Emissionen ist ganz klar Europa, denn hier geht es kontinuierlich in dieser Richtung voran. In Asien und Nordamerika dagegen sind die Schwankungen größer.
Der Schlüssel zum Erfolg: eine konsequente nationale Klimaschutzpolitik und ein engagiertes Vorgehen etwa auf urbaner Ebene bzw. ein mit entsprechenden Förderprogrammen unterlegtes Engagement in Strukturwandel-Regionen.
Klar wird allerdings auch: Das reicht so noch nicht. Es bräuchte einerseits eine Entkopplung in allen Regionen. Und die Geschwindigkeit müsste auch noch mal anziehen, selbst bei den Vorreitern.
