Opportunities of a long-term European transition policy
The scope of action for the socio-ecological transition is being established at the European level. With the Green Deal, the Green Deal Industrial Plan and the dossiers derived from them, among others, the European Union has set far-reaching targets for the member states. Future-proof value creation, sustainable modernization of the economy and the role of decent work in the transition will be relevant topics for trade unions at the European level, particularly in the European election campaign but also beyond.
As part of a two-day workshop organized by the FES and DGB, trade unionists from various EU countries will come together to shed light on necessary European measures for a just, ecological, and democratic transition. The aim is to sharpen mutual understanding, learn from each other, identify conflicting goals, and develop joint strategies for a just transition in the interests of workers.
Questions and topics for debate:
- How can Europe support the transition in the member states?
- What does the European Commission plan to ensure competitive energy prices?
- What can workers expect from the implementation of the Green Deal in the light of the European elections?
- How to finance the transition?
- ETS and CBAM as instruments for the transition
